The Four Elements are the cornerstone of our mind, body, and universe.
As early as Ancient
Greece, philosophers and magicians have applied their knowledge to manipulate and manifest
these elements in various ways.
From the Platonic Elements of Plato’s Timaeus to Franz Bardon’s exploration in Initiation into
Hermetics, modern day magicians have a lot of material to pull from.
So how can we bring this
knowledge together?
First we have to understand that the elements manifest on many levels
including the objective and subjective aspects of our world.
Objective vs. Subjective
So what is objective and subjective reality and how do the elements factor in?
Objective reality
is everything outside our mind and conscious awareness. Subjective reality are our thoughts,
behaviors and anything within our conscious awareness. The elements pervade both aspects of
ourselves and the world around us in different ways. Let’s take a closer look.
A Breakdown Of the Elements
The Power of Flow: Water
The element of water is associated with a person’s emotional state. It’s associated with the
ocean, rivers, and lakes. A person that’s adept at this form of elemental magic can control the
emotions of others, can conjure storms and tempests, and even cause people to break down in
tears to encourage emotional connection.
The Power of Heat: Fire
Fire is associated with war, ambition, lust, anger, and of course the fire element. Candle magic,
forest fires, and heating up the body via practices such as Tummo and the Wim Hof Method are
all manifestations of fire magic. People who are adept at fire magic can “bolster the troops”, use
the element to raise morale in large groups of people, burn away afflictions, start fights using
magical manipulation of the elements in the environment, and of course, manipulate fire.
The Power of Wind: Air
The Air element is associated with movement, fluctuation, communication and wind. On its
grosser material level, manifestation of this element could indicate creating a breeze or strong
gust of wind. At an etheric, emotional and social level it could manifest as improved memory
and ability to communicate.
The Power of Stability: Earth
The element of earth is associated with stability, foundations, stillness, and even depression and
inertia. A magician who possesses mastery of the earth element can physically stop a person in
their tracks using energetic manipulation, cause depression, or manifest things into material existence more readily. They might also be capable of feats related to weight gain and
levitation—similar to someone who’s mastered air.
